Its vast sands invite you to sunbathe, take a dip in the sea or do water sports. Praia da Rocha also has the best bars, restaurants, casinos and pubs which make this an ideal place for a vibrant nightlife.

Portimão also has a broad range of tourist and cultural attractions to make your holidays complete. The Fortaleza de Santa Catarina de Ribamar fortress, with esplanades from where you can enjoy calm views of the beach and the sea, the historic centre of Portimão, the Colégio dos Jesuítas {Jesuit College}, the Convento de São Francisco and the Capela de São José are some of the most striking historical buildings. You can also enjoy a wide range of musical and theatre shows, or perhaps a good film, in one of Portimão’s many venues.

Inaugurated in November 2008, the Algarve International Autodrome will host the largest motor sports events held in Portugal, which is an excellent reason for lovers of these sports to visit Portimão.

For Golf, the area of Portimão is particularly well served, with the two 9-hole championship courses, Penina and Morgado do Reguengo, as well as Alto do Golf, a course with a majestic view out to sea.
